2021,Who is crazier on Double 11 or Black Friday?
We are no strangers to the "Double 11" and "Black Friday" shopping holidays, and many of us will have more or less "chopped up" at this time and experience the "buying" experience. The joy of shopping! We are now used to these holidays, but how did they come about in the first place?
11.11 was originally a day of jokes and sadness, representing the single person, and was beautifully called the "Bachelor's Day". In 2009, the first "Double Eleven" event was planned by Taobao, China, with a relatively small number of merchants, only 27, but the aggregated power of the Internet was not expected to be so great, and the transaction volume of the whole platform reached 52 million yuan on that day, which allowed merchants to see the business opportunity as if they had the key to open the door to traffic. After years of development is not just a symbol day, has evolved into a shopping carnival day.
There are many ways to describe the origins of Black Friday, but the most familiar ones are
1. It refers to the long queues of people who go shopping in malls on the Friday after Thanksgiving. One of the more common beliefs is that because it is the first day of business after Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in November), followed by the traditional and grand American Christmas, people usually start their Christmas shopping spree and many shops are full of customers and thus make large amounts of money. Traditionally, different colors of ink are used to keep track of accounts, with red indicating a loss or deficit and black indicating a profit. This is why the Friday is called Black Friday, to indicate that a profit is expected on this day.
2. Because the shops' sales usually start at midnight on the day after Thanksgiving (i.e. at 00:00 on Friday), the day after Thanksgiving, people who want to buy cheap goods have to rush to the mall in the dark and queue up to buy cheap goods, which can also be seen as a source of "Black Friday". This behavior is also referred to as Early Bird.
Regardless of how the two holidays originated, they have now become a shopping frenzy day, so just how crazy is it? A glimpse of this can be seen in the sales figures of Taobao and Amazon on this day. Taobao data shows sales on Double Eleven: 2009, 52 million yuan; 2010, 936 million yuan; 2011, 5.2 billion yuan; by 2018, it exceeded 200 billion yuan, reaching 213.5 billion yuan, and by 2020, 267.365 billion yuan; while Amazon's data shows that turnover has also been rising since the start of this festival, and by the 2019 year, with sales of $1.48 billion, reaching $4.8 billion in 2020. Although in terms of turnover, Double Eleven is much higher than Black Friday, partly because of the population base, partly because of the difference in product offerings, and partly because of cultural differences, I think. So in terms of "craziness", I think Double 11 will be crazier.
As the new crowns sweep the world, we are about to welcome these two festivals again, what attitude and enthusiasm will people show? We'll see, who will be crazier? I think this is also an expression of our love for life, so let's look forward to such madness.
